Hotel Progresso
Historical hotel in a Liberty style, since the 15 July 1923
1923
Inaugurated on 15 July 1923, by a pioneer of tourism from Sambenedettese, it had a difficult start, given that the majority of "foreigners", for their holidays, preferred private structures to hotel ones. A turning point in tourist entrepreneurship was given by the Royal Decree Law of 1926, which sanctioned the birth of the denomination "Care, stay and tourism station" to be attributed to those seaside resorts that had the same characteristics.
1928
On 30.06.1928, the municipality of San Benedetto del Tronto, first among the towns on the Adriatic, obtained this recognition, and this sanctioned the beginning of a very important tourist era. The finely decorated halls and large rooms enjoyed comforts at the time almost unknown to other accommodation facilities. It immediately became a place of cultural meetings and entertainment for numerous personalities of the time.
1938
Beniamino Gigli, Primo Carnera, the baritone Neroni, Rachele Mussolini, the wife and children of Giacomo Matteotti stayed there after his death, whose stay, it is said, was paid for by the then fascist government. It is also here that Francesca Guidi began her career as a journalist and patron of the arts; she met and frequented personalities such as Balbo, Cardarelli, Marconi, Pirandello, D'Annunzio, Quasimodo, whom she hosted in her splendid villa and then took them to taste the culinary specialties at the Hotel Progresso.
1987
Since 1987 the new property of the Mancini family has started a renovation and modernization work, aimed at maintaining the original structure with all the comforts of modern needs. Direction and management are managed by the owners.
